INTELLIGENT
TRAFFIC LIGHT
CONTROL SYSTEM
A web-based IoT system designed to dynamically prioritize emergency vehicles and support traffic light control.
Intersection Delays for Emergency Response Vehicles
Urban traffic light controllers traditionally operate on static timing cycles that cannot dynamically respond when an emergency vehicle (such as an ambulance or fire rescue vehicle) approaches an intersection.
Emergency vehicles frequently face hazardous bottlenecks and lost response time at congested intersections.
Dynamic Preemption with IoT Edge and Web Dashboard
The system integrates ESP32 microcontrollers deployed at traffic signals with a centralized, real-time web monitoring and control dashboard for traffic operators.
When an authorized emergency vehicle triggers preemption, the system safely adjusts the signal sequence, establishing a dedicated green corridor while safely holding conflicting approaches.
Real-Time Preemption State Machine
A visual flow guaranteed by the deterministic state machine:
Real-Time Operator Monitoring & Override Console
Real-time visualization of current signal phases, light states, and intersection health.
Instant visual telemetry updates whenever emergency preemption is engaged.
Controls allowing authorized operators to adjust timing for unusual traffic conditions.
Edge Microcontroller Signal Control
ESP32 microcontrollers interface with signal relay modules, managing deterministic hardware timing, executing state transitions, and transmitting telemetry back to the centralized web server.
Honored with Best Product Award 2026
The Intelligent Traffic Light Control System was presented at the final year project showcase and awarded the Best Product Award 2026 for its practical software-hardware integration and direct impact on emergency transit.
